If you are looking for something a little different, head over to the century old town in the Cuvamaca Mountains. Take a step back in time and tour through this historic town. Pick up a free map and start your self guided tour of all the fascinating historic sites. Later you can enjoy a slice of homemade apple pie, which just happens to be a Julian staple.

If you are feeling a little more adventurous San Diego offers some of the greatest snorkeling and scuba diving in the us. La Jolla Cove offers some of the clearest waters you will be able to find and gives you an amazing opportunity to see some spectacular sea creatures along with miles of protected preserves to kick you fins through.

If you a get sick of the ocean, why not take a drive inland to the top of Mt. Soledad overlooking San Diego. Don’t forget your camera because the 360 degree panorama up here will leave you breathless. If you are looking for some more picturesque views you can also work your way up to Mt. Helix.

But while in San Diego you will have to eat some Mexican food. The Best Mexican Restaurant in Sand Diego has to be Fidel’s Little Mexico, this great 100% authentic Mexican restaurant is a must experience for any Mexican food lover. Original this was a restaurant to cater to the Mexican farm workers, so you know it is the real deal! Don’t go to the giant corporate fake Mexican food like El torito, or on the border. While in San Diego, you can get the real thing!

Step Back in Time at the USS Midway Museum

Things to do in San Diego could be a long list including the San Diego zoo, the beach and fine eating establishments. One place that everyone should visit is the USS Midway Museum, the longest-serving Navy aircraft carrier. This high tech museum is great for people of all ages.
Children will particularly enjoy the three types of flight simulators. The first one is the Strike Fighter 360. Here visitors can experience aerial stunts such as rollovers, spin and loop as they pretend to fly missions.
The second one is the Mach Combat where visitors can use equipment very similar to train Navy pilots during Vietnam. Visitors even get the opportunity to try their hand at dog fighting.
The third type of simulator is the Flight Avionics where visitors can participate in flying simulator missions during Iraqi Desert Storm.
All three simulators provide a very unique experience for the participants.
Lucky guests may also be able to attend actual military ceremonies which often take place onboard the USS Midway.
The museum also features 26 aircraft that have served the military well since World War II. Visitors can see the SBD Dauntless dive bomber and the TBM Avenger that won World War II for the United States. Then they can move on in history to the Korean Conflict and see the F9F-8F Cougar and the AD Skyraider. Moving still further ahead in history guests can see the F-4 Phantom and the Huey gunship. Not to be left out the museum also features the A-6 Intruder and the F/A-18 Hornet from Desert Storm. Visitors will not only have the opportunity to see the aircraft that was used in each of these conflicts, but they will also be able to climb into the cockpit of many of these aircraft.
While visitors will enjoy seeing all this what makes this museum on the short list of what to do in San Diego is the many docents throughout the museum that are actual war veterans with wonderful stories to tell.
